Smart STB Setup Guide
Emulates a set-top box on Samsung and LG televisions.
Setting up Smart STB
- 1
Install from your TV app store
Search for Smart STB in the Samsung or LG store and install. On launch it displays a virtual MAC address — note it down.
- 2
Send the MAC to support
Smart STB works with a portal URL rather than a playlist. Send your virtual MAC address to support and they will issue the matching portal address.
- 3
Enter the portal URL
In Smart STB settings, open Profiles and enter the portal URL against your MAC. Save and restart the app.
- 4
Set the correct timezone
Under settings, set your timezone explicitly. Smart STB defaults can leave the guide out by several hours on some TV models.
It needs a portal URL, not your normal playlist
Smart STB will not accept the Xtream Codes username and password used by other apps. Ask support specifically for a portal URL for your virtual MAC — supplying the wrong credential type is the usual reason it fails to load.
Strengths
- Runs on Samsung and LG TVs without extra hardware
- Set-top-box style interface that suits older viewers
- Stable once configured
Limitations
- Requires a portal URL rather than standard playlist credentials
- Paid licence after the trial
- Constrained by how little memory Smart TVs give third-party apps
