Step by step

  1. 1

Install from the tvOS App Store

Search for "IPTV Smarters" or "iPlayTV". The Smarters listing name differs by region — check the developer name matches the one support gives you.

  2. 2

    Log in with Xtream Codes

Choose the Xtream Codes option and enter your username, password and server URL. Typing on the Apple TV remote is slow — use the iPhone Remote app or a paired Bluetooth keyboard.

  3. 3

    Let the guide download

Allow a few minutes for the first EPG download. Apple TV has ample memory, so full seven-day guides load without the trouble Smart TVs have.

  4. 4

    Set your timezone

Confirm the timezone in the app settings rather than relying on the system value.

What Apple TV cannot do

  • No sideloading — you are limited to App Store players
  • Player choice is narrower than on Android, and the good ones are paid
  • No EXO player option, so decoder settings available on Android are absent
  • Remote text entry is genuinely tedious without a keyboard
Our verdict

One of the better experiences once configured. Apple TV has enough memory and processing power to handle large channel lists and full guides without the failures common on Smart TVs, and tvOS is stable. The trade-off is a smaller selection of players and no ability to tune decoding — you get what Apple permits, but what you get works well.
