IPTV Smarters Pro is the most widely used IPTV player in the world, and for good reason: it runs on essentially everything, it is free, and connected properly it configures itself. It is also the app that generates the most support messages we receive — almost entirely because of one screen most people get wrong in the first thirty seconds.
This walkthrough covers installation on every major platform, the login choice that determines whether you get a programme guide, and the single setting that resolves most buffering complaints. Budget five minutes.
1. Install IPTV Smarters Pro from your app store (Firestick: sideload via Downloader).
2. Choose Login with Xtream Codes API — not the playlist option.
3. Enter username, password and server URL exactly as issued.
4. In Settings, select EXO Player and enable hardware decoding.
5. Update the EPG and set your timezone manually.
Steps 2 and 4 are the ones that matter. Step 2 determines whether you get a programme guide; step 4 fixes most buffering before it starts.
What you need before you begin
Have your activation message open. When you subscribe or start a free trial, support sends three things: a username, a password, and a server URL. Those three fields are all you need — if you were sent a single long link ending in .m3u, see the next section before continuing.
A word on the app itself: IPTV Smarters Pro is a player, not a service. It contains no channels of its own and is free to download. Anyone charging you for the app is selling something they do not own.
Xtream Codes or M3U? Choose correctly
This is the decision that catches most new users, because both options work and only one works well.
| Xtream Codes API | M3U playlist | |
|---|---|---|
| What you enter | Username, password, server URL (3 fields) | One long http link |
| Programme guide | Loads automatically | Often absent or partial |
| Channel categories | Organised by genre and country | One long undifferentiated list |
| Movies & series | Separated into their own sections | Mixed in with live channels |
| Recommended | Yes — use this | Only if your app requires it |
If your activation message contains three separate fields, choose Login with Xtream Codes API on the first screen. If you only received an M3U link, message support and ask for Xtream Codes credentials instead — they are issued on request and take moments.
Install on Firestick & Fire TV
Firestick is the most common IPTV device and the only one needing a sideload, because the app is not consistently listed in the Amazon Appstore.
- 1
Allow apps from unknown sources
Go toSettings → My Fire TV → Developer Optionsand enableApps from Unknown Sources. On newer Fire OS builds you may first need to openSettings → My Fire TV → Aboutand click the device name seven times to reveal Developer Options. - 2
Install Downloader
Search the Amazon Appstore forDownloader(the orange icon) and install it. Open it and grant storage permission when prompted. - 3
Download the app
In Downloader's URL field, enter the official IPTV Smarters download address supplied by our support team, then selectGo. Ask support for the current link rather than using one from a forum post — third-party mirrors are a common source of modified builds. - 4
Install and clean up
When the download finishes, selectInstall, thenDone, thenDeletetwice to remove the installer file and free up space. Firesticks have very little storage and this matters.
Install on Android TV, phone or tablet
Search the Google Play Store for IPTV Smarters Pro and install it directly. No sideloading is required on Android TV, Google TV, Nvidia Shield or standard Android phones and tablets. On Android TV boxes, install from the Play Store on the device itself rather than pushing from a phone, so the correct television build is fetched.
Install on iPhone, iPad & Apple TV
The App Store listing name varies by region and has changed over time — you may find it as IPTV Smarters Player or Smarters Player Lite rather than "Pro". All are the same underlying player and connect identically. Search "IPTV Smarters" and check the developer name matches the one support gives you.
On Apple TV, install from the tvOS App Store. Apple's platform restrictions mean some settings available on Android are absent, and player selection in particular is limited to the native player.
Install on Windows & Mac
A desktop build is available from the official Smarters website. Install it as you would any application, then follow the same Xtream Codes login below. Desktop is the easiest platform for verifying that credentials work, so it is a useful place to test if a television is giving you trouble — if it logs in on a laptop, the credentials are fine and the problem is device-side.
Samsung & LG Smart TV
Availability on Tizen and webOS varies by model year and region. Where the app exists, installation is straightforward from the TV's own app store and login is identical.
Be aware that Smart TV apps run with considerably less memory than a dedicated streaming device, and large programme guides frequently fail to load as a result. If the app is unavailable on your set or keeps crashing, a £30 Firestick will outperform the built-in app substantially. That is a limitation of how TV manufacturers allocate memory to third-party apps rather than a fault with the service — see our EPG setup guide for the memory-related fixes.

Adding your Strong8K account
Identical across every platform once the app is installed.
- 1
Accept the terms
On first launch the app shows a terms screen. Accept to continue — this is the app developer's agreement, unrelated to your subscription. - 2
Select Login with Xtream Codes API
Two options appear. ChooseLogin with Xtream Codes API. Do not chooseLoad Your Playlist or File/URLunless you only have an M3U link — that path frequently arrives without a programme guide. - 3
Enter a name for the profile
Any label you like — "Strong8K" is fine. This is only how the account appears inside the app, and matters if you later add a second profile. - 4
Enter username and password
Copy them exactly from your activation message. They are case-sensitive, and manually retyping is often safer than pasting, which can carry invisible whitespace. - 5
Enter the server URL precisely
Include the protocol and port exactly as issued — for examplehttp://yourserver.com:8080. No trailing slash, no additional path, no space at the end. This field causes the overwhelming majority of "invalid credentials" errors. - 6
Add user and wait
The app authenticates and downloads your channel list, then begins fetching the programme guide in the background. Allow up to five minutes for the guide on first login — the channel list appears well before it finishes.
The trailing-space problem
Choosing the right player (fixes most buffering)
IPTV Smarters can hand video decoding to several different engines, and the default is rarely the best choice. This one setting resolves more buffering complaints than everything else in this guide combined.
| Player | Best for | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| EXO Player | Almost everyone — start here | Hardware decoding, lowest CPU load, best stability on Firestick and Android |
| IJK Player | Awkward or non-standard streams | Software decoding, higher CPU use, better codec tolerance |
| Native / built-in | iOS and Apple TV | The only option on Apple platforms |
| VLC / MX Player | Advanced troubleshooting | Requires installing the external app separately |
Set this under Settings → Player Selection (wording varies slightly by version), choosing EXO Player for both live and VOD. Then enable hardware decoding if it is exposed as a separate toggle. Together these shift decoding onto the dedicated video chip rather than the general-purpose CPU, which is exactly what a Firestick needs.
Settings worth changing immediately
Timezone
Set your timezone explicitly rather than leaving it automatic. Many Android boxes report UTC to apps regardless of the region configured in system settings, which shifts every programme guide listing by a fixed number of hours.
EPG update interval
Every 12 hours suits most people — frequent enough to catch schedule changes, infrequent enough to avoid loading a low-powered device unnecessarily.
Auto-play last channel
Convenient on a television, irritating on a phone. Worth setting deliberately rather than discovering by accident.
Parental controls
If children use the device, set a PIN and lock the adult categories during setup rather than later. It takes thirty seconds now and is a conversation you avoid entirely.
Troubleshooting table
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| “Invalid credentials” on login | Server URL missing port, carrying a trailing slash, or with an invisible space | Retype the URL by hand as http://server:port with nothing after the port. |
| Channels load but no programme guide | Logged in with M3U instead of Xtream Codes | Remove the profile and re-add using Login with Xtream Codes API. |
| Constant buffering on every channel | Software decoding, or insufficient sustained bandwidth | Switch to EXO Player and enable hardware decoding. Then test your speed at your normal viewing hour. |
| Audio plays but the screen is black | Video codec not supported by the current decoder | Switch player from EXO to IJK for that channel, or toggle hardware decoding off. |
| App crashes on launch (Firestick) | Insufficient storage or a corrupted cache | Clear the app cache, delete unused apps, and remove leftover installer files. |
| One channel fails, all others work | A single dead or renamed source feed | Report the exact channel name to support — this is fixed at source, not on your device. |
| Streams stop after a few minutes | Simultaneous connection limit reached on the plan | Check nothing else is streaming on another device, or add connections on the pricing page. |
Using multiple devices on one subscription
A point worth being precise about, because it is widely misunderstood. Your plan limits simultaneous streams, not installations. A single connection can be set up on your living room television, your phone and a tablet — you simply cannot play more than one of them at the same time.
If a stream stops unexpectedly, the usual cause is another device in the household still playing in the background rather than a service fault. Firesticks in particular keep streaming when you walk away without pressing stop.
Households genuinely watching different things at once need more connections, and our pricing page lets you switch between one and five to see the price change. Most households need fewer than they first assume — a couple who occasionally watch separately needs two, not four.
If it still will not work
Send support a screenshot of your login screen with the password field covered, along with your device model. Nine times in ten the problem is visible in that one image — usually the server URL — and the correction comes back in a couple of minutes.
If you are still evaluating providers, every plan includes the same setup, the same programme guide, and both M3U and Xtream Codes formats. Start with the two-hour trial and follow this guide on your own hardware, or browse the channel list to check your channels are carried before you begin.
